    Sachima has always liked gift boxes and wrapping paper, sometimes more than the actual gift. A mild pack rat, she's one of "those people" who likes to save pretty shopping bags. She hopes that the world of packaging will be just as interesting to you too.

bare necessities

When it comes to grocery basics like milk, one would think that there is nothing exciting going on in that world when it comes to packaging. While it’s true that the exciting biker boyfriends of food packaging are often found in the junk food and cereal aisles often targeted at kids, milk storage is not quite plain vanilla.

What does a gallon of milk look like? Most people probably know it as this:

 

Recently I’ve seen gallons of milk with some slight alterations:

 

Just a change of packaging contracts? Or an easier way to stack and transport?

And of course, our Canadian friends have always bought milk in a bag. That idea seems to be catching on elsewhere, as the Evening Standard wrote an article about the UK possibly adopting the idea for a greener initiative:
