Welcome to BOXthetic, a personal blog about the wonderful world of packaging. When it comes to “product consuming”, we all know it’s the inside that counts, especially when all you want to do is tear away the outside to get at the juicy insides. No one ever cried over wrapping paper (except maybe the person who did the wrapping).
But in the appropriate situations, it is critical to judge the hypothetical book by its cover. There are entire brands being buoyed by the “feelings” and “perceived values” conveyed by a neatly tied blue box or a medium brown bag. Sometimes, your opinion changes just because your first contact with a product is packaging that awes or frustrates you. It can be size, shape, color, artwork or heft.
And so sometimes, especially if you are a pack rat like me, the wrapping paper is just worth saving.
